The Joy of Surprise...

These pics were taken in Indiana (during our recent getaway).  That Saturday morning (when the outfit photos were taken), we were actually headed from the Indiana Memorial Union (in Bloomington) to the West Baden Springs Hotel; a gorgeous resort I've always wanted to experience.  A surprise party was being thrown for my lovely sister-in-law's birthday that day at a nearby golf course/country club; giving us just the excuse needed to do so (smile).

What a wonderful joy it was to be present when my sweet sis-in-law heard the crowd yell, "Surprise!"  She was so very touched to find her only sibling had traveled a good distance (from northwest Ohio) to be there in celebration that day. It's a priceless memory I'll long cherish!

Okay now, here's the real surprise... Preliminarily, we understood the birthday party was to begin at 6 p.m. that evening.  At 1:30 p.m., while enjoying lunch in the lovely hotel in West Baden, Mark realized that he hadn't read the invite thoroughly.  Seems there had since been a change in time for the event...

Yup, it had been moved to 3 p.m.  Fortunately, we were only a short distance away from the party site, and I had packed several extra pieces of clothing (my LBD was perfect for an evening event--not so much for an afternoon soiree).  Although I didn't get pics, I was able to switch out my shorts for this animal print skirt, my Birkenstocks for these metallic flats and let down my hair for a quick change that was totally appropriate for the occasion. Voile!  I was ready to go!

Shorts: Columbia
Shoes: Birkenstock
Handbag: Juicy Couture
Watch: Pulsar (Gifted)
Bracelet: Vintage (bought at local antique shop)

After the party, we enjoyed a trip to a nearby winery, dined out at a sports pub, savored a ragtime band on the veranda of the French Lick Resort Hotel, took a beautiful walk on the grounds/gardens of the West Baden Springs Hotel (I've included a few snapshots throughout this post) and sipped a nightcap in their lounge.  What a great day it was! Will feature added photos of the West Baden Springs Hotel in my next post (on Tuesday).

Joy & peace, T.

Style : Dinner in Indiana...

Hello, Friends!  I bet you wondered if I was ever coming back (LOL!).  My journey to Indiana was so very wonderful. While there we enjoyed the company of dear family and friends.  We also explored and reveled in the delight of experiencing many lovely places--which I'll feature in the next several blog posts.

These pics were taken on one of the back patios of the gorgeous Indiana University Memorial Union/Biddle Hotel; where we stayed for a few nights during our recent getaway. Mark and I both earned our undergraduate degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana; so this place holds a special place in our hearts.  In B-town (as it's affectionately known), we enjoyed scads of fabulous shopping, dining and lots of walking while at a great place we always love to visit.

In northwest Ohio (where we reside), it's been a cool and often-rainy summer.  Wow, what a change of pace we encountered in very hot and humid Indiana!  I was prepared, though; packing lots of light, airy and sleeveless pieces (hats, too).

 Hat: Kohl's (older)
Dress: Purchased at a local boutique (older)
Shoes: Zara
Handbag: Coach
Sunnies: Ray Ban
Bracelet: Vintage

See you on Thursday! Joy & peace, T.

My Therapeutic Recharge...

A few weeks back, I extended my Independence Day holiday a bit by using vacation leave (from work) on the Thursday before and Monday after.  I can't tell you how beneficial this was--to simply take a few days to rest, relax and recharge.

On my days off from work, I read, walked (and ran) outdoors, flower gardened, and spent time envisioning future home renovations/redecorating.  This week, Mark and I are headed off for short, but exciting, out-of-state getaway.

As a result, you won't hear from me for a few days (smile). But, please know this time will spur added recharge of this woman's spirit! So, I'll be back later next week with plenty of pics...

Handbag: Michael Kors

My Thursday and Monday downtime (of a few weeks ago) resulted in the "on-the-spot" creation of several lovely bird baths in my flower gardens with clay pots that had been gathering dust in our home's garage.  Yes, that's one of them featured below.  You see, there's nothing like a little break from the norm to get one's creativity flowing.

Joy & hugs, T.

Shopping Review: Brandzaffair

I must admit; I love shopping as much as anyone else...  That's why I'm excited to feature my collaboration with Brandzaffair. Brandzaffair is a shopping platform that's known as "The Ultimate Online Shopping Experience."  Their mission is "to provide a fresh alternative, changing the way people shop online by surrounding them with their favorite brands, or those likely to become their favorite brands, and the best deals that can be had on these favorite brands at any given time."

My selected courtesy item, when shopping the Brandzaffair website, was this lovely Ann Taylor blouse.  It is a classic I see myself sporting for years to come (much like my treasured pink bandana!).

Brandzaffair's array of brand options (from which to shop) is quite large (It includes Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, Donna Karan New York, Michael Kors and many others!). Also fabulous is that when you pull up a favorite brand, you'll see a listing of their newest deals (Yay for deeply-discounted prices!!!).

What I absolutely adore is their philanthropic focus.  Brandzaffair donates 2.5% of their net profits from each purchase to a charity (listed on their website) selected by the customer.

I'd recommend Brandzaffair. It's a shopping platform, I'll happily continue to use!

What I Wore: Independence Day 2015

Last Saturday, Mark and I jaunted off a couple of hours away from home--in celebration of Independence Day.  It was a fitting celebration, too...

You see, we toured the home of former U.S. President James A. Garfield (see why this has special significance to me by reading this past post), enjoyed a short (yet very beautiful) hike in the mountains, and savored the wind softly whipping around us while viewing captivating Lake Erie (post delighting in a lovely dinner out).

All three of these joys were relatively close to home; here in the state of Ohio. It was a fabulous opportunity for me to pause and give thanks for the gorgeous country I call home.

The outfit featured here was totally comfy on this moderate and breezy day.  Comfort aside; it also provided a sense of chic (which I adore!).
