What I Wore: Art Walk Luncheon

Last Saturday, I attended the local Fashion, Food & Fine Art benefit luncheon (part of Bowling Green's Art Walk 2015) with my lovely daughter-in-law, Amanda (See more about this event in this past blog post). Somewhat chilly, a bit of rain also fell that day...

As you can see, I was ready; sporting my rain boots. To keep warm, I also wore the jacket featured in this past post (went without it in these pics, so my outfit could be better seen).

After the luncheon, we normally like to walk our town's quaint Main Street Historic District; enjoying all the lovely art as a family.  Instead, we gathered back home to savor precious family time (with our beautiful son, daughter-in-law and grandson).

When evening came, we ordered take out from a fave local pub and enjoyed dinner in the dining room; using the china we recently inherited from Mark's mother. Later, Mark thanked me for thinking to use this cherished dinnerware for our casual family meal. Despite the rain and cold, it was such a perfect day!

On Care Packages Real & Symbolic

These pics were taken earlier today. Mark and I had driven into town; taking a few minutes on our Sunday afternoon to mail a sweet care package to our youngest son, who is attending graduate school in Boston.  Being so far away, he was unable to join us for a cherished family gathering we had, yesterday.

With Monday on the horizon, that got me to thinking... A care package was exactly what I needed, too (smile)...

So, here's the symbolic one I've assembled (for myself) to kick this new week off right:
  • I'm setting aside time to mindfully give thanks for the many gifts life has given me.
  • Holding nothing but positive thoughts, and countering negative one with beautiful memories of the weekend I've just savored.
  • Finding ways to enjoy a good laugh (or six).
  • Treating my body to a 30-minute workout.
  • Gifting my soul with a long soak in a bubble bath.
  • Gracing my encounters with the joy of being more fully present.

Anorak: Old Navy (similar)
Sweater: Zara
Black Jeans: L.L. Bean Signature (another great option)
Heels: Michael Kors (on sale!)
Scarf: Handmade via Etsy Vendor
Handbag:  Vera Bradley (this one is adorable)
Sunnies: Ray Ban
Nails: OPI Passion

What goodies will your symbolic care package contain? Would love to hear about them!

Joy & grace, T.

Old Town Style & Spontaneity...

These are the last of our Washington D.C. trip photos from the week before last (see others here and here).  These pics were actually taken in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

Our little jaunt to Old Town was a bit spontaneous. We'd originally planned to spend the day in Georgetown.

Truly, glad we changed our plans, though.  Old Town was quaint. We enjoyed scads of shop browsing, lots of historic sightseeing, a spot of tea sipping at a cafe patio, a bit of shopping, and a lovely dinner at a farm to table restaurant.

I'll readily admit that Mark and I are both avid planners.  Sometimes, that's a good thing...

What I'm learning, however, is there are also times it's best to simply be spontaneous! Our day in Old Town is the perfect example of this.

Wrap: TranquiliT
Scarf: Coach (gifted)
Top: Talbots (thrifted, but this one's similar)
Gray Jeans: Forever 21(majorly marked down!)
Sunnies: Ray Ban
Leather Sneakers: Converse (love these for summertime)
Pendant: Vintage Tiffany (Etsy)
Handbag: Kate Spade (gifted)
Watch: Kate Spade (gifted, but this one is similar)
Garnet Bracelet: c/o Anjolee

Share with me your thoughts on spontaneity! Would adore hearing them.

Joy & grace, T.

Style: Weekend Winery Adventure...

This past Saturday afternoon, Mark and I ventured off to a winery nestled deep into the countryside; about 40 miles from home. Located inside a rehabbed, historic building in the village of Gilboa, Ohio, the winery itself was enchanting. Their wine was fabulous, too!

After a spot of wine tasting (and the purchase of vino to take home), we enjoyed libations on their lovely patio, overlooking the Blanchard River. Afterwards, we walked the small village. Sadly, many of the historic buildings there are now vacant and in near ruin. On the edge of town, we stopped and snapped pics of the village's most notable character: the Gilboa Bull.

We enjoyed lovely weather on Saturday; with a soft mix of both sun and clouds, and temperatures in the low 70's. A maxi skirt, tee and flats served as a chic, yet comfy, way to enjoy our afternoon adventure.  My fave jean jacket added a needed touch of warmth.

T-shirt: JCrew (on sale!)
Jean Jacket: Piace Boutique (Another lovely option here)
Maxi Skirt: J.Jill (thrifted, but here's one I love)

Sunnies: Vera Bradley
Brooch: Vintage (antique shop purchase)
Pearls: Vintage (antique shop purchase)
Watch: Michael Kors (gifted)

Sights & Style: Washington D.C.

Yes, I've been away...

Mark and I flew off to Washington D.C. early last Thursday morning, and arrived back home Sunday night.  We had a fabulous journey; celebrating our wedding anniversary in a historic location where spring has indeed sprung. We enjoyed lots of great dining and sightseeing (and, even a spot of shopping). The cherry blossoms were at their peak and we even dodged the rain!

Style Musings: Layering...

You may have noticed that I'm layering lots as of late.  To me, there's nothing more fitting for spring and fall than layering.

Here, in Northwest Ohio, it's often 20 degrees in the morning; 50 degrees in the afternoon (this time of year). Layering is the perfect alternative to being too hot or cold.

Wintertime is the time to bundle. Summertime lends itself to dressing lightly. Layering works well when the weather is in its "in between" stage (smile).

There's something very chic and classic about the layered look. Even though it's springtime, I've donned an ensemble that's basically neutral.

My infusion of "spring" comes from the sporting of bright pink lipstick and light blue nail polish. Plus, my flower necklace surely adds a note of springtime, too!

 Cashmere Sweater: Older
Python-print Blouse: Lucky Brand
Jeans: Loft
Heels: Candies
Handbag: Juicy Couture
Watch: Michael Kors (gifted)
Statement Necklace: Vintage
Sunnies: Vera Bradley
Lipstick:  Estee Lauder Starlit Pink
Nails: Essie Bikini So Teeny

What are your thoughts on the layered look? Would love hearing about them!
