Don't Douse Your Light!

Last Saturday evening, Mark and I headed out for a spot of dinner and dessert in town.  It had been an incredibly gray, snowy (and super-cold) day.

Minutes before we took the pics for this post, however, a lovely smattering of sunshine descended upon our snow-laden day!  No doubt--this made me happy for multiple reasons!

Having encountered pretty-much gray, overcast days for (practically) longer than I could remember, nature's lovely light was much needed.  Light, however, extends beyond sunshine...

You see, our inner light is our joy incarnate--our spirit enlivened.  It's each one of us living life in a way that brings us peace and joy. Here's a thought I shared on the Tickled Pink Facebook page the other day: "When someone wants to "douse" your light, simply burn more brightly!"

Amidst a super-busy week, I decided to give myself a bit of grace and write a little less, today.

The message I hope to convey is: There are times when allowing oneself to recharge takes top priority over all else!

Inspiration in Style & Life...

Yes, I've sang praises many a time before (here) about inspiration (and, the joy it brings me).  Amidst cold, gray and snow-laden weather, however, sharing what's recently inspired me (and brought me added bliss) seems to be more than the needed thing to do (smile)!

Check out this great blog post to see what inspired me to sport my cherished moto jacket (an investment, wish list item I bought on clearance a few months ago).  This great jacket hanging in the closet doesn't give me feelings of elation.  Wearing it, though; that makes me happy (and, that's a good thing)! In fact, I'm vowing to don this jacket much more often.

Those who read the blog frequently know I adore red lipstick.  It's especially fun to wear when it's dark and gloomy outside--makes the world feel a bit brighter in my estimation! Check out this great blog post which inspired me to try a great tip related to red lipstick application.

My home is a haven, and I am thankful for my dear husband's ever-present optimism, support and love.  When I step out into the "real world," though, I'm finding a lot of really crabby folks out there as of late (must be the weather, huh?). The other day, having encountered too many of these individuals to count (in one single day), I was inspired by this lovely thought from SARK (an author and fellow blogger): "We all have the opportunity to take something that previously hurt us and turn it into a gift for someone else."  Guess what? From that point forward, for every testy person I dealt with that day, I turned around and did something extra-nice for someone else I encountered!

Here's a link to SARK's Facebook page.  Interestingly enough, she's featured a whole lot of great stuff on the topic of inspiration, too!

So, my friends... What's inspiring you as of late?  Please share! I think we all need a bit of added inspiration these days (xx).

Joy, hugs & peace, T.

Appreciation Mode...

Sometimes, feelings of gratitude and appreciation literally overcome me. When they do, they often appear out of the blue; post a super-busy work week or following a period of time where I've been in "auto-pilot mode" for far too long.

These pics were taken last Friday evening; following a super-busy work week, and minutes before heading off for a dinner date (downtown) with Mark.  Feelings of extreme gratitude--for pretty much everything in my life--were indeed flooding my heart...

Shifting my thoughts a bit... A couple of things that I'm appreciative for fashion-wise... The pants I'm donning in these pics are an investment pair of wool trousers. I bought them at a boutique in Indiana last fall.  They'd originally sported a $159 price tag, but I purchased them off a final clearance rack for $35. And, my lovely gray turtleneck (I've been on the search for one of these!), I found while browsing a local thrift shop a couple of Saturdays ago (believe me, I paid next to nothing for this mint piece!).

 Coat: L.L. Bean
Scarf: Coach (gifted)
Handbag: Rebecca Minkoff
Gloves: Coach
Booties: Nine West
Sunnies: Ray Ban
Turtleneck: J.Jill (thrifted)
Wool Trousers: Drew
Pendant: Vintage Tiffany (Etsy)

So, tell me... What feelings of appreciation are flooding your heart as of late? Would adore hearing about them.

Joy & grace, T.

Polyvore-inspired Style in Action...

Hope your Valentine's Day weekend was a fab one! Mine indeed was. I'd hoped to take photos amongst the lovely WinterFest ice sculptures lining our beautiful downtown...

Mother Nature, however, sent us a mix of wet snow mixed with icy particles on Saturday morning. This truly didn't lend itself to photo taking--out in the elements. As a result, after our breakfast date (downtown), we found a covered locale at a local shopping plaza to snap a few shots.

The outfit I'm wearing was inspired by this past post.  In fact, the Polyvore board I created (inspiring this outfit) is featured directly below).

Afternoon at the WinterFest

I love creating Polyvore inspiration boards! They help me to creatively style pieces already hanging in my closet--as well as determine what future purchases might best compliment what I currently own.

What I Wore: Wear Red Day 2015

I'm a Go Red for Women ambassador.  If you don't know what this is, I hope you'll take a moment to check out this past post. It's a movement that's near and dear to me!

These pics were taken last Friday evening; post a day in the office (and, on my way to my weekly downtown dinner date with Mark). February has been deemed "Heart Month" by the American Heart Association.

Take a moment and check out the links above to learn about heart healthiness in women, and why it is a cause that I so fully embrace. Caring for my own heart health (healthy eating, stress-reduction techniques and regular exercise--to name a few) is not a chore; it's truly part of my self-nurturing regimen.  Spreading the word about heart healthiness--it's my personal advocacy!

Appreciating Beauty (Where I Haven't Always)

Have I ever mentioned I'm not a "winter person?" I'm pretty sure I have (smile).

When I look at the gorgeous winter scenery in these pics, however, it's hard not to pause and appreciate the natural beauty. Luscious, fluffy snow blanketing the ground, statuesque bare trees and those deep blue skies; what's not to savor?

In 2015, I'm striving to see a bit more beauty everywhere.  Rather than wish it away, I'm trying to appreciate each day in this season (even those that are icy and frigidly chilling!).
