Patience is a Virtue!

As a little girl, my mother often told me, "Patience is a virtue."  It's a concept I had a hard time grasping (smile)...

Recently, I've come to understand the wisdom of this age-old cliche, though.  Case in point: About a year ago, I read (somewhere since forgotten) every French woman possesses the talent to do her own manicures.  Francophile that I am, I took on the challenge of teaching myself how to proficiently do my own manicures.

It wasn't easy at first; especially where painting my nails darker shades of polish came into play.  In the beginning, I got more polish on my fingers than my fingernails (LOL!).  In time, however, I learned to take my time; be patient; and observe that (with continued practice) I was gaining proficiency in my manicure endeavors.

These days, I'm doing my own manis, and that gives me a huge sense of accomplishment! Plus, this little foray has taught me the value of having patience, too.

Style: Why I Heart Heavy Rotation

"Heavy rotation" is blogspeak for wearing an item of clothing (or an accessory) a lot (as part of your daily wardrobe rotation).  As of late, the black jeans and boots (featured) in these pics have been on heavy rotation for moi.  

Long ago (and, far away), the idea of heavy rotation was foreign to me.  You see, I thought I "needed" to have lots of clothes--all of which were never worn too frequently.  Most of these items were selected because they were on sale versus being pieces I personally sought to add to my collection. That's not my philosophy these days, though.  Here's why...

To me, heavy rotation means I only own clothing pieces I adore wearing.  It also means I've learned how to creatively mix and match what I already own.

Wearing items in heavy rotation means I enjoy wearing pieces because they are comfy (Plus, I just feel good wearing these items!). When heavy rotation is in play, I am a woman who has put thought into her wardrobe; because I choose to wear what works best for me.

In summation (smile), a heavily rotated wardrobe is one that I have mindfully selected, is well refined and consists of quality pieces I heart wearing. Heavy rotation gives me permission to not shop till I drop, saves me money and means my closet is less congested.

Dreaming of Springtime in Galoshes...

The Polar Vortex of 2015 has arrived.  It's snowy and frigidly cold here in Northwest Ohio. In fact, this latest little round of winter has prevented my picture taking efforts this entire week (sigh).

As a result, today's post is one dedicated to much warmer times... You see, I'm planning a little getaway (in the springtime) to Washington D.C., and (of course) I'm already thinking about what to wear.  Given the fact my trip will take place during the rainy season, I'm thinking I should plan on it raining at least one day while I'm there.  This means I may need to invest in a pair of Hunter boots (red ones; specifically).  Aside from the boots, I own clothing items very similar to the other ones featured on these Polyvore style boards and could easily replicate both looks.

The top style board conveys a look that is perfect for a rainy afternoon at a museum. Don't you think?

Then, there is a night out on the town... Of course, if it's not raining, I'd don my red open toed Nine West heels (which I adore) with the "out to dinner and drinks" ensemble featured directly above.  If it's raining, however, what do you think about pairing a pair of shiny (red) Hunter boots with a black sheath dress (as I've done here)? Would you wear tights with them or not?

See What's in My First Birchbox...

Another Christmas season has passed. During the holidays, I had the privilege of spending time with my beautiful family.  The only negative thing I have to say is that my time with them flew by much too quickly.

One of the gifts I received from my son, Andrew, and daughter-in-law, Amanda, was a Birchbox subscription. Thought it would be fun to share what was in my first gifted box (which arrived in the mail this past weekend)...

Not Soap Radio Joy Inducing Bubbles for Bath or Shower: I adore bath time and cannot wait to try these bubbles!  What a great way to brighten up a gloomy winter's day: a joy-inducing soak in a hot sudsy tub...

Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner: I haven't used eyeliner in years.  Recently, I've wanted to give it another go, though. This sentiment came about after reading several recent beauty blogs featuring great makeup tutorials for a special night out. A touch of eyeliner will give my eyes added emphasis when I want to do so.

Suki Exfoliating Foaming Cleanser: Not sure about you, but I adore skincare products. Using an exfoliating skin cleanser is akin to enjoying a spa treatment (at home) to me!

LAQA & Co. Lip Lube: The lip color I received was a fabulous shade of purple (Menatour).  I've wanted sport purple lips for some time now.  The photos below are of me donning this fab hue last Saturday night (and, although the weather disappointed me that evening, this great shade of lip color did not!).

Harvey Prince Perfume (Ageless): I love this citrusy scent! It's a bit of springtime in the dead of winter. Plus, I've never been one to associate myself with my age (at any age in my life); so, I'm loving the idea of agelessness.

Hello, All! How's your 2015 going so far? These pics were taken last Friday evening (January 2); following my first day back in the office since December 19.  Although I thoroughly enjoyed my break, it's always good to get back into my daily routines. One thing I especially love about these pics is that you can see the dappling of the sun's last light gently touching the pine boughs.  Isn't it lovely?

My 2015 Mantra...

Happy New Year!  Every January, I select a guiding mantra--a self-affirming theme for the year ahead of me. The links below are to past posts featuring my mantras for the years 2012-2014.

This year's mantra is "I matter."  It's inspired by a fellow blogger, who has launched a whole series of posts related to this totally worthy affirmation.

You see, I've come far in relation to not discounting my own needs, and ensuring I care for myself (body, mind and soul) on a fairly consistent basis.  Nevertheless, I'm a busy woman (as we all are!).  I work a full-time job, blog, write, volunteer, flower garden, create art, belong to several community-based organizations and undertake countless other endeavors--all in addition to being a wife, mother, and (now) a grandmother.  "I matter" is an affirmation that keeps me firmly grounded in self-care, and quickly redirects me when I need it most (I've already tried this one on for size, and it definitely keeps me in line! LOL!).

The pics in this post feature what I wore last night (on New Year's Eve).  Mark and I ventured downtown to a lovely historic theater that's been converted into a bar/special events center.  There, we attended a fab retro-themed New Year's Eve celebration.  We had great fun!
